It’s The Holidays.

This session started with one simple idea: spend an evening together. They packed a watermelon, found a quiet spot by the water, waited for golden hour, and ended the night jumping into the lake fully clothed. There wasn’t a timeline to follow or an announcement waiting to be posted. It was just an ordinary summer evening. And honestly? Those are some of my favorite sessions. Because years from now, these photos won’t remind them of a wedding date or a milestone. They’ll remind them of what life felt like. They’ll remember laughing over watermelon juice dripping down their hands, the shock of cold water after the jump, the sun disappearing behind the trees, and the feeling of being completely present with each other.
That’s the kind of nostalgia I want to create.
One of the biggest misconceptions about couples photography is that it has to be formal or overly posed. It doesn’t have to happen in a field at sunset if that’s not who you are. It doesn’t have to revolve around a proposal or an engagement ring. Your session can be built around the things you already love doing together. Maybe that’s grabbing coffee from your favorite neighborhood café before wandering downtown. Maybe it’s cooking dinner together at home, playing cards on the porch, exploring your favorite bookstore, spending an afternoon on the water, or driving with the windows down to nowhere in particular.
The best sessions aren’t about creating a version of your life that doesn’t exist.
They’re about preserving the one you’re already living.
As a photographer, those are the stories I’m drawn to the most. The in-between moments. The quiet traditions. The ordinary Saturdays that eventually become the memories you wish you could revisit. Because one day, this version of your life will be the one you miss. So don’t wait for a ring, a wedding date, or a major announcement to celebrate your relationship. Sometimes the most meaningful reason to book a session is simply because you don’t want to forget what life feels like right now.
