One of the first questions I hear after a couple books their engagement session is:
“Where should we take our photos?”
The answer is almost never, “Where’s the prettiest place?”
Instead, I always ask:
“What feels like you?”
Maybe that’s wandering downtown with coffee in hand. Maybe it’s chasing the sunset on the beach. Maybe it’s sitting beneath giant oak trees or spending an evening at your favorite bookstore. Maybe it’s something so unique, no one’s ever thought of it before or even done it…and that’s even better.
The location is just the setting. Your story is what makes the photographs memorable.
Here are a few of my favorite places to photograph engagement sessions around Mobile and the Gulf Coast.
Downtown Mobile
Downtown Mobile has endless variety.
Historic architecture, colorful streets, hidden alleyways, brick sidewalks, murals, cozy cafés, and beautiful evening light all make it one of my favorite places for couples who want a timeless, editorial feel.
Perfect for:
- Date-night sessions
- Dressy outfits
- Film-inspired photographs
- City lovers

Fairhope
If you’re dreaming of romance, Fairhope almost always delivers.
From flower-lined streets and charming storefronts to the Fairhope Municipal Pier overlooking Mobile Bay, it’s one of the most versatile engagement locations on the Gulf Coast.
Perfect for:
- Sunset sessions
- Walking together downtown
- Waterfront portraits
- Casual or elevated outfits
Dauphin Island
There’s something magical about Dauphin Island.
The beaches feel quieter than many Gulf Coast destinations, giving couples room to slow down and simply enjoy being together.
Whether we’re walking the shoreline, exploring the dunes, or watching the sky change colors at sunset, the island creates photographs that feel relaxed and timeless.
Perfect for:
- Barefoot beach walks
- Windy, romantic moments
- Golden hour
- Film photography

Gulf Shores & Orange Beach
If you’re picturing soft sand, sea oats, and glowing sunsets, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are hard to beat.
These beaches offer plenty of space to create everything from playful moments in the surf to elegant portraits as the sun drops below the horizon.
Perfect for:
- Vacation engagement sessions
- Sunrise or sunset
- Summer evenings
- Couples traveling to the Gulf Coast
Historic Neighborhoods
Some of my favorite engagement sessions happen in neighborhoods filled with character.
Historic homes, wraparound porches, oak-lined streets, and hidden gardens create a backdrop that feels both timeless and personal.
Perfect for:
- Cozy storytelling
- Walking sessions
- Lifestyle portraits
- Film-inspired imagery

Local Parks & Nature Trails
If your idea of a perfect date is spending time outside together, parks and wooded trails offer a peaceful setting that lets your connection take center stage.
Whether it’s a quiet path, an open field, or a hidden creek, these locations are ideal for couples who want a more adventurous, natural feel.
Perfect for:
- Casual sessions
- Adventurous couples
- Dogs welcome
- Golden hour
Don’t Be Afraid to Choose Somewhere Unexpected
Some of my favorite engagement sessions haven’t happened in the places people typically search online.
A neighborhood coffee shop.
Your favorite dive bar.
An old record store.
A bookstore.
A backyard.
A family farm.
A vintage motel.
The place where you had your first date.
The best engagement session location is often the one that already means something to you.

Let’s Tell Your Story
Choosing the right location isn’t about finding the most popular backdrop—it’s about creating photographs that feel honest, personal, and true to your relationship.
As a Mobile, Alabama engagement photographer, I help every couple choose a location that matches the story they want to tell. Whether that’s downtown Mobile, Fairhope, the beaches of the Gulf Coast, or somewhere completely unexpected, we’ll create a session that feels like you.
If you’re ready to start planning, I’d love to help.
